In honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, Kingston Library and the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center co-present a screening of Yo, Indocumentada (I, Undocumented).
Tamara, Desirée, and Victoria are Venezuelan women living in Caracas who, at first glance, appear to have little in common. Yet all three share something far more significant than the city they call home: each carries an ID bearing a name that is not her own. They are transgender women in a country where legally changing one’s birth name is not permitted.
Together, the three women embark on a series of legal actions and tireless advocacy, testing the willingness of Venezuelan institutions to uphold a most fundamental right: the right to identity.
Selected for the 2013 United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF), Yo, Indocumentada is a powerful testament to resilience, identity, and the ongoing struggle for trans visibility and rights.
Director Andrea Baranenko will join via Zoom for a special post-screening discussion!
Free and open to all. Program held at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center Apuzzo Hall 300 Wall Street (at John).
